C’est d’un trait noir, taillé à vif par l’insoumission libertaire face au conformisme castrateur du bien-pensant, que Jean-Michel Rabeux a écrit Le Cauchemar, fantasmagorie tragique, inconvenante. Au banc des accusées, deux femmes, une Mère et une Fille. L’une, clodo noyée dans la pisse et l’alcool, abîmée à force d’offrir son corps au plaisir des années, s’est échouée sur les trottoirs de la ville. Elle cuve son tourment d’exister et la fièvre du désir dans le rire provoquant d’une folie insomniaque, s’en va par delà les bienséances de la pensée, dans des zones troubles où la mort étreint la vie en un cri de jouissance monstrueux. L’autre, flic rimbaldienne, frondeuse ironique, étrangle sa jeunesse dans les nœuds de la filiation. Toutes deux, l’une puis l’autre, sont interrogées comme il se doit par la Question, sereine incarnation de l’Ordre. Leur crime ? Il fut de vivre malgré la conscience de la mort, il fut d’aimer un père incestueux, de tuer la mère, de défendre l’abomination sacrilège… simplement de rêver ces actes. Coupables donc. La Mère condamnée à mourir, la Fille à vivre.
Double procès
Jean-Michel Rabeux lutte contre la normalisation des désirs, fend la chair et libère les mots existentiels. Il fouille au creux des âmes, excave les songes obscurs, les secrètes peurs et douteux fantasmes… L’innommable fondu au plus intime, dans l’alliage même de l’être. La plume trempée dans le sang des Atrides, il brise les rets du langage qui menottent le sens. « Ce procès est un cauchemar, où nos faits et gestes cachés, privés, seraient soudain privés du privé, du secret auquel ils ont droit. Nos sombres pensées soudain étalées en place publique, dans les mots de tous. » dit-il. La parole jaillit en saccades sombres, se répand en flots tumultueux, tournoie, sans cesse. Au risque de se perdre dans les méandres des paradoxes et contradictions, parfois dans les images déjà bien usées du matricide, parricide, infanticide et autres crimes. Sur le plateau cerné de caméra de surveillance, Eugène Durif, en femme à barbe lunaire, donne à la Question une tranquille mais bien molle assurance, face à Claude Degliame, excessive tragédienne couronnée de pampre élégiaque. Rompant ce duo un peu mal accordé, la jeune comédienne Vimala Pons, insolente, rebelle, têtue, fait vibrer les nuances et les élans blessés du texte. N’empêche. Arquée contre les vertueux et autres doucereux censeurs, la pièce devient confuse à vouloir bousculer tous les tabous. La bonne conscience, prude ou provocante, ne fait jamais du bon théâtre.
