C’est au cœur de l’imaginaire, là où les mythes anciens de l’humanité fécondent les rêves en liberté, qu’Henri Gougaud puise le riche minerai de ses histoires. Chanteur, parolier pour Ferrat, Gréco, Reggiani, homme de radio et écrivain, le conteur toujours fascine par ses aventures fantastiques, qui embarquent vers un monde aux lisières du réel, où la vérité se fond dans l’affabulation. « Libertaire définitif » qui « invente sa vie tous les jours. » comme il aime à dire, il est de la famille des saltimbanques et trame au fil du temps une œuvre prolifique qui brode au dos des mots une douce philosophie. Pour lui, les contes vivent au fond des âges et chevauchent la parole du peuple pour venir jusqu’à nous, trompant la mort en se transformant à chaque transmission.
L’origine des contes
Fidèles à leur style, Les Baladins du miroir portent en scène l’univers d’Henri Gougaud dans le folklore du théâtre forain, qui allie, sur fond de toiles peintes, costumes moyenâgeux sortis des vieilles malles d’enfance, adresses directes au public, boniments, chants et changements de décor à vue. En musiques et en chansons, les onze comédiens déclinent ainsi une ribambelle de personnages, picorant leur matière dans les traditions russe, turque, corse, bulgare, italienne, tchèque, égyptienne ou encore indienne. Lutins magiciens, bossus têtus, grenouilles boulimiques et autres drôles de créatures se relaient pour révéler l’origine des contes que la peur, la mort, l’amour, le désir chaînent à travers les siècles au cœur des hommes. Geneviève Knoops, depuis longtemps compagne de route de la troupe belge, orchestre cette balade au pays d’histoires ancestrales pour faire entendre « le murmure de ce fameux « Chant de la Source » ».
