Le Château de Barbe-Bleue est de ces opéras qui se prêtent plus facilement au jeu du concert qu’à ceux de la scène. Non pas qu’il manque de tension dramatique : elle est extrême, au contraire, mais déjà tout entière contenue dans le dialogue du Comte Barbe-Bleue et de Judith (ici John Relyea et Ekaterina Gubanova), son ultime épouse à qui il fait découvrir son « pauvre, triste château sombre », et plus encore dans l’orchestre. Du coup, aucune mise en scène littérale n’est possible – ce serait redondant –, mais la dérive psychanalytique conduirait à un autre écueil. Quant à La Voix humaine de Poulenc, c’est un monologue téléphonique, une séquence sans contrechamp. Là encore, texte, musique et intonations disent les sentiments et rendent délicate toute représentation scénique. Krzysztof Warlikowski relève ce double défi. C’est peu dire que le résultat est attendu avec impatience.
