A travers un dispositif bi-frontal plaçant les spectateurs au plus près des comédien-ne-s (Lionel Lingelser, François Praud et Sophie Botte, en alternance avec Victoire du Bois), Le Chien, la nuit et le couteau nous plonge dans un « conte fantastique-gore » entre rêve et cauchemar. Un conte tragicomique à l’occasion duquel un personnage mystérieux, appelé M., va faire l’expérience, en une nuit initiatique, « de l’amour, de la mort et de l’amitié, devenant tour à tour proie et prédateur, tueur pour ne pas être tué ». « La pièce joue avec nos peurs et nous met face à notre propre barbarie, déclare le metteur en scène Louis Arene. L’humanité devient monstrueuse, mais sous l’effroi affleure le rire ». Plongée en clair-obscur dans des eaux troubles et ténébreuses, cette « épopée nocturne et déglinguée » questionne la complexité de ce que nous sommes.
