Verbe haut et débit rapide, le héros interprété par Criss Niangouna a en trop sur le cœur… Ses mots, sa colère, et sa rage se déversent donc avec un débit comparable à celui du grand fleuve qui arrose le pays de ses ancêtres… Du Congo, il ne reste que des bribes, des images mythiques et fantasmées d’une sagesse depuis longtemps trahie par le narrateur qui, élevé en banlieue parisienne, porte tous les stigmates d’une jeunesse davantage, et plus cruellement, dépourvue d’avenir que de racines. Mireille, son amour depuis toujours, est partie loin de la zone pour aller réussir ailleurs. Drissa, son copain d’enfance, a, peu à peu, pris la tangente, et son esprit perturbé erre désormais à la périphérie de la raison… Quant à l’Afrique, ancestrale et magnifiée, elle a beau rappeler la brousse, la jungle et les léopards, elle ne parvient pas à ancrer des repères dans l’esprit de ces enfants.
Un spectacle comme une chasse au fauve
Ubi bene, ibi patria : s’il est une patrie pour le héros interprété par Criss Niangouna, c’est dans les mots et eux seuls qu’il la trouve, puisque ni le Congo ni la France, ni l’amour ni l’amitié ne lui offrent asile et refuge. La scénographie dessine un sol fait de plaques qui s’écartent comme pour signifier un bouleversement tectonique permanent, et l’étrange cube que le comédien tient dans ses bras (cage, boîte ou tabouret ?) dit bien la difficulté de se poser lorsque les jalons et la terre tremblent continuellement. Il faut donc l’immobilité obligée de la garde à vue pour que le héros parvienne à renouer les fils de son destin et tâche de comprendre, dans le flot de sa logorrhée inventive et éruptive, ce qui l’a conduit au bord du gouffre. La mise en scène de Dieudonné Niangouna chorégraphie la parole fiévreuse que porte Criss, et l’ensemble compose un spectacle virevoltant, survolté et palpitant.
