Le théâtre se porte décidément bien en Lituanie. On n’est pas prêt d’oublier Le Maître et Marguerite, spectacle mis en scène il y a quelques années par Oskaras Korsunovas au Festival d’Avignon : une direction d’acteurs survoltée, une scénographie particulièrement habile. Le metteur en scène Gintaras Varnas travaille, quant à lui, très régulièrement avec des marionnettes. Il a ainsi choisi de revisiter sous cet angle deux œuvres de Monteverdi, Le Combat de Tancrède et Clorinde et La Danse des ingrats, actuellement en tournée en Ile-de-France. Le répertoire lyrique lui est familier : sa mise en scène de Rigoletto de Verdi en 2003 à l’Opéra National de Lituanie avait été particulièrement remarquée. Reste à savoir si son équipe de musiciens baltes, dirigés par Darius Stabinskas, jouera ce répertoire de manière stylistiquement convaincante.
