Suite de la tournée bien accueillie de cette production de l’opéra de Monteverdi mise en scène par Christophe Rauck, directeur du Théâtre Gérard Philipe de Saint-Denis, et dirigée par Jérôme Correas à la tête de son ensemble sur instruments anciens Les Paladins. « L’opéra a toujours été mon but » déclare l’ex-chanteur devenu chef à temps plein. « Aujourd’hui, nous sommes en train de faire ce pour quoi Les Paladins ont été fondés : l’opéra mais aussi le théâtre, tout ce qui est scénique, dramatique. Chez Monteverdi, je cherche à rendre les passages du parlé au chanté avec toutes les gradations possibles. Ce n’est pas toujours facile pour les chanteurs mais c’est aussi très excitant. Je veux aller jusqu’au point où l’on se demande si c’est de l’opéra ou du théâtre chanté… ». Un engagement théâtral qui se retrouve aussi sur le plateau où, comme l’a déjà souligné dans ces pages Antoine Pecqueur, Christophe Rauck ne cherche pas « à accentuer le côté shakespearien du livret, mêlant amour, meurtre et pouvoir » mais privilégie plutôt « les aspects fantasques, très “baroques“, de ce récit antique », « les déplacements des chanteurs, sur scène mais aussi dans la salle, apportant un autre relief à l’œuvre de Monteverdi ».
