Né au cœur des Printemps arabes qui agitèrent l’Egypte, puis de la volonté de Blaise Merlin, directeur du festival La Voix est Libre qui s’en fit le persévérant médiateur, « Le Cri du Caire » a réellement pris forme en 2017, lorsqu’Abdullah Miniawy, esthète poète qui slalomme entre les maux, put enfin venir en France. Si son verbe s’inscrit dans l’héritage des chantres soufis, sa verve l’ancre tout autant dans le champ contemporain. L’enjeu : briser les œillères, pour interpeller le monde actuel. C’est de cette oreille qu’il faut écouter le souffle circulaire du saxophoniste anglais Peter Corser et les embardées hérétiques de l’Allemand Karsten Hochapfel, aux violoncelle et guitare, deux présences essentielles auxquelles vient s’ajouter désormais celle d’Erik Truffaz, dont les volutes bleu nuit devraient apporter un subtil supplément d’âme à un projet qui n’en manque déjà pas.
