La violoniste Patricia Kopatchinskaja s’inscrit dans une filiation assez évidente avec le fondateur, en 1957, du festival : comme virtuose bien sûr, comme artiste dévouée à la création de son temps mais aussi en tant que témoin engagé de son époque. Elle propose ainsi un cycle de trois concerts scénographiés intitulé « Musique pour la planète » (les 5, 10 et 20 août). Elle y pose la question de l’avenir du monde à partir de trois grandes œuvres : la Symphonie « pastorale » de Beethoven (avec le Gstaad Festival Orchestra et Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla), le Quintette « La Truite » de Schubert et Les Sept Dernières Paroles du Christ de Haydn (à la tête de la Camerata Bern).
Sous le signe de l’humilité
Tout le festival est placé sous l’invocation de l’« humilité », celle qui prévaut dans la musique de chambre, portée ici par les plus grands artistes, mais sans renoncer aux grandes formes : Symphonie « Résurrection » de Mahler par le Gstaad Festival Orchestra et Jaap van Zweden (19 août), Concerto pour violon et Première Symphonie de Brahms (Orchestre philharmonique d’Israël avec Gil Shaham et Lahav Shani, 26 août), les deux concertos pour piano de Ravel par Yuja Wang et l’Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France dirigé par le très jeune Tarmo Peltokoski (2 septembre).
