Créée en 1856 aux Bouffes parisiens, à une époque où haussiers et baissiers se déchiraient déjà les faveurs de la Bourse et précipitaient les petits porteurs naïfs dans la faillite, l’opérette-bouffe d’Offenbach n’a rien perdu de sa pertinence pamphlétaire, et la société actuelle s’y reconnaîtra aisément ! Sauf que, contrairement à la gravité contemporaine ou au ton dramatique adopté par Zola dans L’Argent, Offenbach prend le parti d’en rire ! Modernisant le livret et transformant le savetier en artisan et le financier en trader, l’association Colorature en présente une version pour quatre chanteurs et un piano, avec Frédéric Veys à la mise en scène et Diane Gonié à la direction musicale. On assiste aux aventures rocambolesques de Belazor et Larfaillou, qui se détestent mais finissent par se réconcilier grâce au mariage du second avec la fille du premier, le tout sur fond de déconfiture et d’enrichissement boursicoteurs. Revirement de situations, humour et jeux de mots, mélodies joyeuses et rythmes entraînants : tous les ingrédients d’un divertissement plaisamment moqueur sont réunis !
