Ils sont trois sur scène : Rawi alias Pierre-Luc Duranceau (le comédien français Baptiste Kubich) ; Radwan (le comédien québécois Eric Robidoux) ; Omar, leur père (le comédien libanais Gabriel Yammine). Trois présences qui se croisent bien qu’appartenant à des espaces-temps différents, trois voix qui soliloquent, qui s’entrelacent durant une représentation faite de reproches, de regrets, de doutes, de poésie et de divagations. Un père vient de mourir, ses deux fils, à des milliers de kilomètres l’un de l’autre, livrent certaines bribes de leur histoire familiale. Une histoire douloureuse, traversée par des deuils, marquée par l’exil, organisée autour du déséquilibre psychiatrique de Radwan. Une histoire révélant les vulnérabilités de ce dernier, mais aussi celles de Rawi, frère ennemi devenu écrivain à succès, accomplissant ainsi le rêve avorté de son aîné rongé par la folie, frère refusant d’exaucer l’un des vœux les plus chers de celui-ci : écrire sa vie de démence afin qu’il puisse, peut-être, mieux la comprendre en la lisant.
Trois monologues, trois quêtes identitaires
« Tu es attaché à la souffrance de ton frère, se reproche Rawi. Ton frère est fou et c’est toi qui est aliéné (…), enfermé dans une prison que tu t’es construite pour rien… » Faisant se confronter les tourments identitaires de ces trois protagonistes enchaînés les uns aux autres (l’âme du père questionne le rapport au divin à travers des extraits de textes religieux ou poétiques), le metteur en scène d’origine libanaise Nabil El Azan construit une représentation mêlant différentes langues (les interventions en Arabe du défunt sont de toute beauté), différentes atmosphères et différents codes de jeux. Ainsi, alors que Gabriel Yammine déploie une forme d’adresse puissante, intériorisée, alors qu’Eric Robidoux construit un personnage véhément, d’une présence saillante, Baptiste Kubich, lui, fige son personnage dans une attitude lisse et parfois trop convenue. C’est là, sans doute, la principale faiblesse de cette représentation par ailleurs pleine de charme : ne pas avoir su amener le comédien français à plus de singularité et de profondeur. Ceci afin d’éviter la part de réalisme psychologique que son interprétation fait peser sur le spectacle. Ceci afin de faire écho aux mondes intérieurs, aux chemins insolites, arpentés par les deux autres comédiens.
