Il y a au départ de cette aventure le roman éponyme de Florence Seyvos qui développe une histoire parallèle entre la vie de Buster Keaton et la destinée d’un jeune garçon handicapé, Henri, amateur de train solitaire et soumis à la violence de son père. Il y a également, dans le réel cette fois, un ami du metteur en scène, Hervé, qui ressemble à Henri, et le conduit à adapter ce roman pour la scène. Une histoire « de lectures, de rencontres, de hasard » pour Laurent Vacher.
Interroger la solitude et la différence
Sur scène on retrouvera la narratrice du roman, sœur du garçon incassable, et un comédien qui interprète les autres personnages croisés dans ce texte qui voyage des deux côtés de l’Atlantique. Ni Henri, ni Keaton ne seront eux incarnés. Ce dernier seulement par une projection de Steamboat Bill Jr, film dans lequel les comédiens sur scène s’amuseront parfois à s’insérer. On découvrira également un fakir – un vrai – au physique de premier de la classe, qui offre dans son rapport à la douleur et aux objets « un autre univers que la simple narration du texte ». Un dispositif original et hybride pour montrer que « l’humanité de l’être triomphe toujours d’un corps abîmé ».
