Publié en 1949, l’action du Fusil de chasse prend place au Japon, dans l’immédiat après-guerre. Ce court roman de Yasushi Inoué revient sur différents événements liés à une histoire d’amour adultérine, à travers trois lettres écrites à un même homme par trois femmes : son épouse, sa maîtresse, la fille de cette dernière. Transformées en monologues, ces lettres sont aujourd’hui incarnées sur la scène du Théâtre La Forge par Emmanuelle Meyssignac. « Ce qui fait la singularité du récit de Yasushi Inoué, explique la comédienne, c’est de donner cette histoire à découvrir non pas du point de vue d’un narrateur extérieur (…), mais de livrer trois points de vue sur la chose, chaque personnage choisissant de raconter tel ou tel événement en fonction de ce qui l’a frappé, blessé, étonné. » Accompagnée sur scène par le contrebassiste Jean-Claude Oleksiak, Emmanuelle Meyssignac passe d’un personnage à l’autre, donnant corps à cette histoire « chargée d’émotion et de non-dits ».
