Un père « trop bon » qui consent au déguisement de sa fille pour que son cœur choisisse en toute liberté celui qu’il lui destine pourtant, un valet et une soubrette goûtant aux joies du jeu de rôles carnavalesque à grands coups assénés de vérité sincère et de bâton, des cœurs capricieux qui voudraient que la nature gouverne l’établissement, la cruauté d’un ordre immuable où le charmant est nécessairement prince : tel sont les ingrédients du Jeu de l’amour et du hasard, la pièce la plus fameuse et la plus jouée de Marivaux. Joyeux à l’idée de revisiter ce grand texte du répertoire, chef-d’œuvre d’un auteur qu’il connaît bien pour l’avoir déjà fréquenté deux fois avec La double Inconstance et Les Sincères, Jean Liermier l’aborde en respectant la complexité de ses enjeux et de ses enseignements, convaincu que « seul le spectateur peut apporter des réponses aux questions qu’elle pose » sur l’amour, le narcissisme, les rapports filiaux, les rapports sociaux et l’entrecroisement des regards qu’elle met en scène.
