Pour cette pièce, Aina Alegre a tout d’abord puisé dans ses souvenirs, quand, petite fille, elle prenait part aux castells qui faisaient vibrer les villages catalans : fête, tours humaines, ferveur villageoise… Toute l’expression d’une communauté et de son vivre ensemble y était magnifiée. Le Jour de la bête, tout en dépassant la question géographique et culturelle, reprend à son compte la notion de groupe embarqué dans un rituel collectif, où le rythme des pas, la clameur des voix, l’ardeur des traversées conduisent à la sublimation d’une énergie commune, dans sa puissance comme dans sa sauvagerie. Car, même si l’allégresse, le carnaval, la transe, ne sont pas loin, les architectures de corps qu’élabore la chorégraphe nous rappellent aussi la fragilité humaine, tout comme l’idée qu’un élan vital peut aussi se transformer en geste mortel.
