Après Cité Babel, récit de son enfance à la cité de la Lionderie, quartier populaire à Hem dans le nord de la France, Rachid Bouali reste toujours librement inspiré par son vécu. Une même « envie de partager avec le public une partie des souvenirs de cette vie de quartier pleine d’émotions, de rêves où s’harmonisent les cultures diverses » porte les deux nouveaux seuls en scène conçus et joués par le créateur de la bien nommée compagnie La Langue Pendue. Un jour j’irai à Vancouver fait revivre ces heures où adolescent, il découvre avec une bande d’amis les joies des Belles Lettres et de l’art dramatique grâce à l’ouverture d’un atelier théâtre, véritables planches du salut. Plus que jamais traversé par une grande tendresse, le spectacle Le jour où ma mère a rencontré John Wayne met en scène la figure maternelle et rend hommage à la vocation qu’elle a suscitée. « C’est elle qui m’a permis d’être là où je suis. Elle m’a nourri avec son imaginaire. C’est grâce à elle que je raconte des histoires aujourd’hui » reconnaît volontiers Rachid Bouali. Avec un beau sens du rythme et du verbe, un humour tendre, le comédien fait vivre en homme orchestre toute une kyrielle de personnages attachants. De véritables épopées aussi intimes qu’universelles ».
