« Au Liban, on peut s’affranchir de tout sauf de Dieu », avise Mohamed Kacimi qui cosigne, avec Darina Al Joundi, Le Jour où Nina Simone a cessé de chanter, l’un des spectacles-révélations du Festival « off » d’Avignon 2007. Le soir des obsèques de son père, Noun — double scénique de la comédienne — décide pourtant de couper le son des psalmodies du Coran pour faire résonner la voix de Nina Simone. « Texte de feu et de folie » duquel Darina Al Joundi « ressort brûlée mais libre », ce monologue autofictionnel rend hommage à un père qui a su placer sa fille sur le chemin de l’émancipation. « La religion, c’est pour la masse, lui a-t-il appris, on est son propre Dieu ! ». Dirigée par Alain Timar, l’actrice libanaise revisite son propre passé, effectue sur scène le geste qu’elle aurait aimé accomplir : s’enfermer avec son père, se confier une dernière fois à lui en femme affranchie, en être donnant libre cours à ses rêves et ses révoltes.
