« On m’appelle Grosse Patate, on m’appelle comme ça parce que j’aime manger. J’aime tellement manger, pétard de pétard. » Cette petite fille de dix ans, qui a perdu sa mère, confie ses secrets et ses découvertes à son journal intime, chaque soir elle raconte sa confrontation au monde et aux autres, au fil d’une année scolaire, entre la classe et la cour de récréation. Lorsqu’elle s’endort, un mystérieux homme en noir nous guide à travers ses rêves et sa conscience. Entre coups de blues, premiers émois, espoirs et déconvenues, la petite fille se débat dans un univers qui comme chacun sait demeure propice à valoriser la loi du plus fort. Le texte de Dominique Richard aborde des sujets graves – l’acceptation ou le refus de soi, la mort, la différence – avec un humour sensible. Le metteur en scène François Gérard donne à la pièce le ton de l’autodérision et l’humour, pendant une année de CM2 comme « un véritable et joyeux condensé de la vie : peur, solitude, jalousie… ».
