CITÉ DE LA MUSIQUE / QUATUOR CONTEMPORAIN
Parmi les centaines d’œuvres commandées par les Kronos, les figures de la création états-unienne (Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Philip Glass…) voisinent avec des musiciens venus d’ailleurs géographiques ou musicaux (d’Astor Piazzolla à Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, de Laurie Anderson à John Zorn), sans compter d’innombrables arrangements (de Bill Evans, des Beatles, de Jimi Hendrix…). Invités d’honneur de la Biennale de quatuors à cordes, les quatre musiciens (dont le violoniste fondateur David Harrington) offrent deux concerts retraçant leur parcours, depuis le choc initial Black Angels de George Crumb jusqu’aux créations d’Aleksandra Vrebalov, Gabriella Smith ou Mariana Sadovska. En parallèle, six formations révèlent les cinquante pièces commandées par les Kronos à autant de compositeurs et compositrices (soit huit heures de musique) pour inciter les jeunes quartettistes à se lancer dans l’aventure des multiples esthétiques d’aujourd’hui.
