Le Kronos Quartet joue Sun Rings de Terry Riley, une première en France

Figure fondatrice du minimalisme dont In C, en 1964, constitue l’un des gestes inauguraux devenu icône, Terry Riley collabore avec le Kronos Quartet dès les premières années d’une des formations majeures consacrées à la création contemporaine. En 2002, dans le cadre d’un programme artistique initié par la NASA, le compositeur américain imagine un mélange entre le quatuor à cordes, des parties vocales et des sons captés dans l’espace. Après un album sorti en 2019, Sun Rings est donné pour la première fois en France en clôture du week-end Espaces à la Philharmonie. Les pupitres du Jeune Chœur de Paris se joignent aux quatre musiciens américains pour un concert multimédia immersif, qui s’appuie sur l’envoûtement hypnotique des boucles répétitives. Une expérience qui s’inscrit dans la lignée de celles que Terry Riley imagine depuis ses débuts, tels les All-Night Concerts, au cours desquels il improvisait jusqu’au petit matin.
