Au Château D’Aguas-Frescas, à trois lieues de Séville, l’amour mène la danse, et les intrigues s’entremêlent au gré des intérêts, des attraits, des jalousies et des circonstances. Chérubin aime la comtesse, qui aime le comte, qui aime Suzanne, qui aime Figaro. Figaro tente d’échapper à Marceline, Suzanne galope après sa dot, Antonio peste contre les saboteurs de plates-bandes, les portes claquent, les masques tombent, les déguisements sèment le doute et la zizanie, et tout le monde court après tout le monde. Joyeux charivari, cascades de folie et quiproquos délirants : tout porte au rire même s’il ne faut « pas confondre le tempo allegro de la pièce avec de la bonhommie », remarque Agnès Régolo qui entend « rendre compte de l’extrême cruauté des situations traversées ». « Vaudeville existentiel et politique » et « théâtre du désir lancé à plein régime », Le Mariage de Figaro est la pièce où Beaumarchais « invente les prémices d’une grammaire de la liberté » : il est des leçons qu’on se plaît toujours à réentendre…
