« Ce qui est dit dans Le Mariage, remarque Christophe Rauck, est autrement plus profond qu’un étendard politique » : sans nier la dimension historique de l’œuvre de Beaumarchais souvent présentée comme un brûlot révolutionnaire, le metteur en scène, séduit par la modernité de la pièce, y retrouve des thèmes universels et intemporels, notamment sur les rapports amoureux et la capacité des femmes, la Comtesse, Suzanne et Marceline à « dessiner un nouvel espace relationnel dans lequel les lignes entre le masculin et le féminin son bouleversées ». « Finalement, la pièce ne parle de rien d’autre que de territoires ou d’identités à conquérir ou à reconquérir », remarque le metteur en scène qui embarque le spectateur dans l’espace et le temps, s’appuyant sur un univers sonore aux motifs modernes et un décor ouvert permettant une traversée de la pièce guidée par le regard « acide et sans complaisance » de Beaumarchais.
