Même pour rêver, l’héroïne du Massacre du printemps tourne autour du pot. Elle voudrait se rappeler d’une traite de ce qui l’a meurtrie il y a des années, mais ses pensées empruntent des chemins tortueux. Son corps aussi. Dans la chambre d’hôpital où elle va bientôt accoucher, elle se revoit plus jeune, près de sa mère atteinte d’un cancer. Mais elle s’imagine en même temps en vieille femme profitant d’un moment de lucidité pour essayer de reconstituer ses souvenirs. Tout se mélange. Avec cette pièce polyphonique, tout en dédoublements, Elsa Granat poursuit la quête d’irrationnel et de brutalité qui fait la singularité de son théâtre. Elle creuse en particulier un thème déjà présent dans Un amour fou (2015), monologue d’une femme amoureuse d’un schizophrène : le rapport de l’accompagnant au monde hospitalier. Le gouffre qui sépare ces deux mondes. Écrit au plateau à partir d’une expérience personnelle, Le Massacre du printemps dit l’héroïsme de ceux qui restent.
