«Le Médecin malgré lui est une plaisanterie énorme, pleine d’imbroglios, de pots de chambre qu’on hume et de coups de bâton» dit Jacques Bachelier, qui entend mettre en scène cette farce enlevée, bouffonne et scatologique avec la bonne humeur qui sied au genre. Mais derrière le masque grimaçant du clown, se trouvent ses «yeux grand ouverts sur le rêve» et c’est cette dimension d’une profondeur lyrique que le metteur en scène cherche à dévoiler en inscrivant sa création dans la veine de Fellini, en s’inspirant de ses musiques et de ses ambiances, pour faire surgir le mélange «de réalisme et de poésie, de burlesque et d’équivoque» à l’œuvre chez le maître italien comme chez celui de l’Illustre Théâtre. Si Sganarelle est un amateur de bouteilles et de filles, un roublard et un menteur, il est aussi un rêveur qui se prend à son propre rêve, un comédien qui adhère à son rôle: c’est toute la fécondité de cette dialectique entre l’être et le paraître que Jacques Bachelier et les siens explorent avec entrain, vivacité et bonheur.
