Attention, ça déménage, ça décape, ça fouille même dans les retranchements des inadaptations humaines ! Ivo Van Hove, directeur du Toneelgroep d’Amsterdam, qui nous a conquis avec Tragédies romaines d’après Shakespeare ou avec Scènes de la vie conjugale sur le texte de Bergman, s’empare ici du Misanthrope de Molière et ose radicaliser la révolte, les contradictions et la volonté destructrice d’Alceste. Ce dernier dénonce les hypocrisies et les trafics d’influence du monde en choisissant d’en incarner l’obscénité, même si son cœur oublie son éthique intransigeante et intégriste et s’éprend de Célimène, coquette frivole et mondaine qui raffole du beau monde. Un paradoxe pour ce désespéré à fleur de nerf. C’est la première fois que le metteur en scène crée une pièce à Berlin à la Schaubühne, il est soutenu par des comédiens époustouflants, dont Lars Eidinger en Alceste (il a joué dans Damönen, et le Hamlet de Thomas Ostermeier, c’était lui) et Judith Rosmair en Célimène (elle était alors Gertrude et Ophélie).
