Pour sa dernière pièce Chers, bouleversante, Kaori Ito avait recueilli les messages des vivants à leur défunts. Pour Le Monde à l’envers, c’est la parole enfantine qu’elle a collectée, créant un théâtre Kamishibaï (théâtre ambulant japonais) dont l’histoire narre « l’aventure d’un petit garçon qui traverse un monde à l’envers où la terre, trop piétinée, s’est échappée à la place du ciel ». Pour remettre le monde à l’endroit, les enfants de 4 à 6 ans étaient invités à remplir un sablier de leurs secrets. C’est de cette matière que se sont nourries la chorégraphe et ses danseuses pour imaginer l’aventure de trois héros tragiques qui, dans leur lutte pour tenir debout, fracassent leurs carapaces au sol et révèlent ainsi leurs secrets, cette « fantaisie précieuse qui constitue leur identité ». Une invitation à assumer son originalité et à cultiver son imagination, que l’on ait 4 ou 150 ans !
