« Les personnages décrits dans la pièce sont remplis de petites habitudes, ils ont leurs rituels. On sent qu’ils sont aguerris, mais qu’ils portent aussi en eux un certain poids de la vie. Ce sont des hommes las. C’est pourquoi j’ai voulu mettre en lumière deux hommes à l’âge de la retraite », dit Christophe Gand pour expliquer son choix de comédiens ayant deux fois l’âge des interprètes habituels du Monte-plats. Ben et Gus sont tueurs à gages. Dans le sous-sol d’un restaurant, ils attendent l’arrivée de leur prochaine victime. Mais le futur trucidé tarde, et les deux compères tuent le temps, faute de mieux, en parlant sans véritablement réussir à s’entendre. Soudain, s’ouvre le monte-plats, avec, à l’intérieur, une nouvelle commande… Alors commence l’angoisse, comme toujours magistralement orchestrée par Pinter !
