Matéi Visniec dans Le mot progrès… fait écho à la prédilection de Ionesco, compatriote roumain, pour les situations absurdes et un imaginaire ubuesque. D’emblée, c’est la volée d’injures entre deux soldats en guerre – beaux-frères et ennemis – sur une ligne de démarcation dans les Balkans. Puis un milicien harangue des réfugiés à un poste frontalier en les obligeant à s’agenouiller devant la terre de leur nouveau pays. Parmi ces réfugiés, un père et une mère retrouvent leur maison incendiée. Leur fils exécuté est présent sur le plateau, il s’adresse à ses parents qui ne le voient pas. Cet univers fantastique développe sans effroi le thème du mort qui revient à la vie dans l’attente de la réconciliation. La mère aimerait « récupérer » le corps du disparu pour lui accorder une tombe, lieu de mémoire et ultime repos. Aussi le père, fossoyeur shakespearien, creuse-t-il la forêt et ses couches de cadavres superposées au gré de l’Histoire. Sur la scène aussi la fille du couple, prostituée qui « se perd » à Paris. Jean-Luc Paliès offre à cette comédie dramatique un rythme enjoué et facétieux, un écho à l’ambiance jazzy d’Alexandre Perrot et Jean-Baptiste Paliès. Le fameux progrès, si inégalitaire qu’il entraîne une régression morale et humanitaire, est ridiculisé. Saluons ce bel élan de résistance à la loi du plus fort et au triomphe du néant.
