Pour continuer à faire vivre un théâtre en travaux, quoi de mieux qu’un web-opéra diffusé en direct sur internet ? Telle était l’idée originale lancée par l’Opéra-Comique pendant ses travaux en février 2016. Le compositeur Marc-Olivier Dupin avait ainsi créé un thriller lyrique avec la complicité du librettiste et metteur en scène Ivan Grinberg qui revendiquait avoir « voulu faire un clin d’œil au Fantôme de l’opéra ». Deux ans après, le spectacle est repris sur le plateau bien physique de la Salle Favart dans le cadre du Festival Folies de jeunesse. Destiné à tous les publics à partir de 8 ans, L’Ecureuil bleu joue résolument la carte de la mise en abyme : alors que l’Opéra-Comique prépare son gala d’ouverture, la chanteuse vedette refuse de partager l’affiche avec le ténor. Une remplaçante est vite trouvée mais son écureuil bleu est mystérieusement assassiné. Pendant que l’enquête se met en place, la musique emmenée par les Frivolités parisiennes rend hommage au répertoire de l’opéra-comique avec des réminiscences de Lakmé, Manon ou Louise. Le parcours du Festival Folies de jeunesse se poursuivra quant à lui avec un spectacle de la Maîtrise populaire de l’Opéra-Comique, My Fair Lady (28 février et 1er mars) et La Princesse légère de la jeune compositrice Violeta Cruz (9 au 11 mars).
