Que diable les Anges au Plafond sont-ils donc allés chercher du côté des Fragments d’un discours amoureux (1977) de Roland Barthes ? Mise en scène par Brice Berthoud, interprétée par deux quatuors – l’un consacré au jeu, l’autre à la musique –, la pièce ne tarde pas à donner une réponse : l’amour y est traité comme un combat individuel à la croisée de la mythologie, de la science et de la poésie. Pour approcher Roland Barthes, Les Anges au Plafond répondent concrètement au constat que pose celui-ci en ouverture de ses Fragments : « quoique parlé par des milliers de sujets, le discours amoureux n’est soutenu par personne ». Un couple de chercheurs, interprété par les comédiens-marionnettistes Camille Trouvé et Jonas Coutancier, est ainsi envoyé en mission dans les profondeurs d’un être humain sujet à la passion amoureuse. Le discours scientifique rejoint ainsi le discours amoureux, et entraîne à sa suite plusieurs autres paroles, qui toutes se voient attribuer une forme très visuelle. Le fragment permet de multiplier les variations autour d’un même thème, et la musique accompagne avec bonheur les marionnettes dans leur conquête de la vie.
