« Homme de théâtre », comme il aime à se définir lui-même, Luis Jaime-Cortez enseigne, crée, dirige, met en scène et joue. La dynamique corporelle et le masque fondent son travail d’interprète et de pédagogue, et dans les deux spectacles qu’il joue cet été, il est en compagnie des masques créés par Den, qui lui permettent d’incarner tous les personnages qu’il fait surgir des univers de trois auteurs latino-américains vivants : Luis Sepùlveda, Isabel Allende et Elsa Osorio. Le Neveu d’Amérique est adapté « du plus beau livre de Luis Sepùlveda », série de courts récits composés par l’écrivain argentin au cours de ses années d’exil et lors de nombreux voyages en Amérique Latine.
Viatique théâtral pour un voyage existentiel
Depuis Santiago jusqu’à Martos, petit village andalou où naquit son grand-père, Sepùlveda narre ses rencontres extraordinaires : « des marins, des professeurs amateurs de casinos et des femmes, des filles à marier à tout prix (…) jusqu’à l’aviateur fou qui assura le service postal entre la Patagonie et la Terre de feu ». Luis Jaime-Cortez s’empare du texte en invitant le spectateur à un périple magique à travers les mots, les sons, les couleurs, les sentiments et les mystères de la condition d’homme et de la condition d’artiste. Trois voyages et quatre actes composent ce spectacle : chaque partie reçoit une forme théâtrale différente et est écrite par l’imaginaire et le corps du comédien. Cet « hymne à l’amour et à la liberté » trouve son pendant en miroir dans Histoires pour vaincre l’oubli, second spectacle et nouvelle création du Théâtre du Hibou, autre invitation à pérégriner dans les arcanes de l’âme australe.
