« Je connaissais surtout le théâtre de Thomas Bernhard, confesse Bernard Levy, sa férocité descriptive de la société autrichienne, la violence obsessionnelle de sa langue. Le Neveu de Wittgenstein m’a révélé sa fragilité et sa profonde humanité. » Touché par ce récit qui retrace l’amitié ayant lié Paul Wittgenstein (le neveu du philosophe) et l’auteur autrichien – deux individus en conflit avec le monde -, le metteur en scène a choisi de confier cette parole à la fois autobiographique et imaginaire à Serge Merlin. Une parole multiple à travers laquelle le comédien fait non seulement entendre des anecdotes pleines de cocasserie sur la vie et la relation des deux hommes, mais également des réflexions beaucoup plus sombres sur la solitude, la folie et la mort.
