Tout commence par une disparition incongrue : celle du nez du major Kovaliov, fonctionnaire qui un matin se réveille et constate l’absence de son appendice nasal. Cette amputation donne lieu à une succession de situations et de dialogues grotesques, digressifs, fantasques, une suite de scènes portant un regard satirique sur la Russie technocratique et hiérarchisée dans laquelle vit Gogol.« Ce qui me paraît essentiel », explique Nicolas Liautard, « c’est de donner à ressentir l’étrangeté que l’on peut éprouver à l’égard de son propre corps, cette frayeur (…) qui remonte à l’enfance. » Dédié à tous « les enfants qui philosophent dans leur bain », qui commencent à s’interroger sur leur « Moi », sur la matérialité et l’immatérialité qui nous constituent, Le Nez s’attache à faire le lien entre l’univers politico-fantaisiste de Gogol et les débuts de questionnements ontologiques des jeunes spectateurs.
