C’est une sorte de come-back après trois ans de silence. Le Cabaret Carton est repris aujourd’hui par Sophie Renauld sous l’appellation millésimée du Nouveau Cabaret Carton. Pour l’occasion, le public introduit dans la salle du Théâtre de la Girandole à Montreuil est loin de s’ennuyer. Si l’heure n’avançait, il irait jusqu’à en redemander, livré à la contemplation ludique des facéties d’une bande d’affreux jojos déconnectés. Tout près du spectateur, le régisseur Carl Habib est attentif aux frôlements de Mercedes, la gracieuse Sophie Renauld, une Madame Loyal désenchantée, aux côtés de Bernard Cupillard, un déclamateur de poésie tragique aux épaules de déménageur. Au piano et à la guitare électrique, Christophe Imbs fait résonner ses accords. Il s’applique à lancer sa musique libre à l’adresse du travesti David Noir, un chanteur à la belle énergie dont l’inspiration varie entre mélodrame, métal et rock. Deux personnages sont des nouveaux venus dans ce spectacle bon enfant de fanfreluches, de pacotilles et de paillettes. D’abord, le directeur de la Girandole, Luciano Travaglino : il incarne naturellement son rôle de chef de troupe aux côtés de Félicie Fabre, sa tendre dulcinée qui joue Dame Lucienne.

Mais tout commence mal, un second travesti est absent. Un spectateur pris au hasard fera l’affaire… Et pendant qu’on y est, pour pallier à tous les manques, les faux départs ou les retards, le chef propose en première partie de soirée, les talents d’une intermittente du spectacle, présente dans la salle ce soir-là, spécialiste en romances anciennes. À chaque soir, son artiste de danse, de cirque, de musique ou de théâtre en vedette américaine. C’est la pagaïe fourmillante, les moyens du bord réclamés à corps et à cris, une débrouille de grands chemins pour attractions de banquets et de noces populaires, assumée par des « idéalistes économiquement faibles et emmerdeurs publics bénévoles qui refusent le devoir civique de consommation à outrance ». Bienvenue à ces habitants d’une cour des miracles préservée des brigands et des malandrins de l’autre monde, celui de la réussite, du capital et de la finance. La dimension sociale dans tous les boniments débités est aussi légitime que la valeur artistique revendiquée. Et l’amour toujours, bien sûr. Le Nouveau Cabaret Carton se donne comme un moment de bonheur sans prétention, parfois complaisant avec ses trouvailles malicieuses, une sorte de cercle magique, une ruche aux bourdonnements satiriques et provocateurs. De la bonne humeur nocturne à volonté.
