Tous les trois déportés pour des motifs différents, ils se retrouvent derrière les murs d’un camp nazi. Après le choc des premiers jours de leur détention, les personnages du Peuple de la nuit doivent tenter d’apprendre à résister au processus de déshumanisation mis en place par leurs tortionnaires. « Il s’agit là de rappeler à soi-même les forces de survie, explique le metteur en scène Franck Berthier*, de réorganiser sa vision de l’instant, en fragmentant la pensée pour ne pas être anéanti par le souvenir, la nostalgie ou l’effroi. Nous suivons l’histoire de ces trois personnages qui font face, de façons différentes, à l’implacable absurdité des camps. La parole, ici, devient la seule arme possible pour dire l’horreur. » Interprété par Aïda Asgharzadeh (qui est également l’auteure du texte), Magali Genoud et Amélie Manet, le spectacle de Franck Berthier souhaite participer à un travail de mémoire en sortant des livres d’histoire pour raconter l’irracontable. Cela, en nourrissant l’idée d’un « théâtre comme loupe du monde ». Un théâtre « qui devient le meilleur moyen pour lire les mouvements et les contradictions de l’humanité ».
