Emmanuel Van Cappel aime le son du rire : le « rire naïf de Bourvil, le rire théâtral de Raymond Devos, le rire ensoleillé d’Henri Salvador, le rire généreux de Michel Boujenah » ainsi que le rire de Manoche, personnage anticonformiste né, il y a quelques années, de son imaginaire, qui est selon ses propres termes un rire « plus intérieur ». Traversé par toutes ces formes d’humour, ce comédien-musicien (il a obtenu un premier prix de trompette du Conservatoire de Paris) joue autant avec les mots que les mots se jouent de lui, ce qui entraîne son personnage dans des situations des plus rocambolesques. Ainsi, de la boîte à musique à la boîte de nuit, du salon athée au salon de thé, de la boucherie à la corrida, en passant par le conservatoire et la cathédrale, Manoche dresse, à l’occasion du mariage de sa sœur, un tableau certes souriant, mais non moins réaliste du monde qui l’entoure. Car ce clown tendre et candide renverse les évidences pour percer la vérité, jongle avec les mots pour en bouger le sens. Et, pour rêver, il regarde le monde à l’envers. Manoche s’avance et raconte des histoires à dormir debout. Des histoires qui entremêlent drôlerie, musique et chanson. Des histoires désopilantes et poétiques qui brouillent nos certitudes et bousculent nos préjugés.
