Avec l’œuvre de Charles Tessier, né vers 1550, Le Poème harmonique rend hommage à une époque charnière où les polyphonies de la Renaissance coexistaient avec les airs pour voix seule accompagnée qu’allait imposer le baroque naissant. Le mélange des genres est, du reste, l’une des marques de l’art de Charles Tessier, dont on entendra, comme dans le programme quasi-identique enregistré il y a deux ans pour le label Alpha, airs de cour et chansons populaires. Ce musicien voyageur, amoureux des Suds et des Orients, n’a pas son pareil pour peindre avec délicatesse les scènes et les sentiments. La présence au programme d’œuvres de Dowland, Hassler et du Landgrave de Hesse achèvent l’évocation d’un temps d’intense circulation des œuvres et des hommes dans une Europe apaisée.
