Les créations de Guilherme Botelho constituent à chaque fois des mondes saisissants d’inventions, paysages souvent oniriques qui défilent sous nos yeux avec des personnages surprenants. Ici, Le Poids des éponges nous plonge dans le quotidien d’une famille marquée par des relations conflictuelles, ou plutôt par une forme d’incommunicabilité qui ronge chaque être. Pourtant, on danse, on virevolte sur une valse ou on s’encanaille sur une rumba endiablée, on nage sans se noyer dans un décor improbable : les images sont fortes pour dépeindre une réalité issue du quotidien, que le chorégraphe démultiplie en trois versions pour mieux se jouer du visible comme de l’invisible. Conflit, complicité, défaut de communication engluent le père, la mère et la fille, bientôt relayés par une foule de personnages secondaires. De fable, le spectacle tourne au surréalisme, un univers très à part porté d’une façon unique par Guilherme Botelho.
