Du Québec au Danemark, du 21ième siècle au 19ième, Lepage a voyagé dans l’œuvre d’Andersen, d’abord à travers son journal qui lui dévoile une proximité réelle avec l’auteur et à travers Paris ensuite, grâce à une même passion pour la ville lumières. Lepage en maître d’œuvre a imaginé les promenades de l’écrivain sur les rives de la Seine en 1867, lors de l’Exposition universelle, tandis que le héros du spectacle vivant d’aujourd’hui, l’acteur Yves Jacques sur la scène de Chaillot, suit pas à pas les traces de cette Ombre fascinante, un siècle plus tard exactement après la Grande Exposition, en 1967. Et la rencontre avec la Dryade de l’arbre, un conte d’Andersen inspiré par la mythologie grecque, a lieu. Andersen a rencontré la jeune femme blottie dans un arbre parisien, planté un an avant l’Expo. Jeux du temps pour un seul lieu car la dryade fait l’épreuve de la fin du romantisme et du début du modernisme. Un événement sous l’œil averti d’un grand homme de théâtre.
