« J’ai décidé de partir dans une ville française où je n’ai aucune attache, pour chercher anonymement du travail. (…) J’ai loué une chambre meublée. J’ai conservé mon identité, mon nom, mes papiers, et je me suis inscrite au chômage avec un baccalauréat pour seul bagage. » Pendant six mois, la journaliste Florence Aubenas a partagé la vie de toutes ces femmes invisibles qui nettoient, balaient, décrassent, récurent, astiquent, purifient et font disparaître la saleté des autres à la sueur de leur front, au péril de leur squelette et pour un salaire de survie qui permet seulement, quand on en a la force, de retourner au chagrin que l’on a quitté la veille. « Avec Magali Bonat, nous avons cherché un jeu absolument investi dans la parole et dans son rapport au public, sans interprétation superflue des faits rapportés. » dit Louise Vignaud, qui se tient à hauteur de décence de Florence Aubenas, dont l’humour et la précision font rempart au pathos tout en forçant l’empathie.
