Après avoir déjà choisi de confronter deux quatuors de Bartók à la musique de Schubert pour le premier volet de cette intégrale, le Quatuor Diotima approfondit les ressources de cet alliage musical original en associant les Quatuor à cordes n°3 et n°5 du Hongrois et le Quatuor à cordes n°14 en ré min D810 du Viennois. « Il fallait trouver des pièces qui soient capables d’attendrir un peu la musique de Bartók qui est d’une grande exigence mais qui peut pour le public sembler un petit peu agressive. Schubert a cette qualité extraordinaire de partager sa douleur de manière universelle et cela met un peu de baume sur la musique de Bartók » explique Franck Chevalier, l’altiste du quatuor Diotima. « Bartók est un vrai génie car il a donné de nouvelles règles au quatuor à cordes. Ce sont des œuvres diablement difficiles, mais extraordinairement expressives » poursuit-il au moment où paraît chez Naïve l’enregistrement de cette prometteuse intégrale.
