Sous le titre «Fiction», le Quatuor Ebène, déjà remarqué par le New York Times comme « un quatuor à cordes pouvant facilement se transformer en groupe de jazz », rassemble dans un nouvel album (chez Virgin Classics) et sur la scène des Folies Bergères une belle série de standards de jazz ou pop revisités avec la complicité des voix de Fanny Ardant, Luz Casal, Natalie Dessay et Stacey Kent. Dix ans après ses débuts, le Quatuor Ebène se souvient : « Au soir, encore dans nos salles de cours, un standard de jazz, une chanson étaient prétextes à improviser et surtout à mesurer les possibilités du quatuor… » De quoi aiguiser, pas à pas, des appétits nouveaux de musique et des envies d’élargir le spectre des répertoires, des rencontres et des humeurs…
Un rêve devenu réalité
« Nos arrangements naissent ainsi, nourris par nos expériences respectives dans des groupes de jazz, de rock ou de pop. Au travers de cette musique et au fil des années, nous développons ainsi une partie de notre identité : de mini-sets de jazz impromptus, des concerts où Miles Davis et Ravel se partagent l’affiche, un goût naissant pour l’improvisation, des rencontres avec des jazzmen… ». La rencontre avec Richard Héry, batteur-coloriste et véritable « cinquième homme » chambriste du projet, finira de convaincre les Ebène d’aller au bout de leur projet et de leur rêve : « Fiction, ce mot représente pour nous ce rêve, cette fausse réalité d’un quatuor à cordes jouant et improvisant pour retrouver cette liberté si propre à tous les musiciens classiques du passé ».
