NOUVELLE PRODUCTION / OPERA BASTILLE
C’est une entrée attendue au répertoire de l’Opéra. Créé de manière posthume en 1903 à Bruxelles, Le Roi Arthus n’a jamais été monté à l’Opéra de Paris – ce qui en dit long sur le conservatisme des programmations. L’unique opéra de Chausson est présenté ce mois-ci à Bastille, nous permettant enfin d’apprécier la musique riche et colorée de Chausson (du Wagner à la française, pourrait-on être tenté de dire !), et le livret, révélant un Moyen Age rêvé sous inspiration romantique, évoquant les amours de Lancelot et Genièvre et la grandeur d’Arthus. L’Opéra de Paris ne fait pas les choses à moitié, confiant la mise en scène à Graham Vick, généralement à l’aise avec ces ouvrages historiques, et la direction à Philippe Jordan, idoine pour réaliser la synthèse entre écritures françaises et germaniques. Le casting est plus qu’alléchant : on retrouve notre star Roberto Alagna ainsi que la délicieuse Sophie Koch. Le rôle-titre est tenu par le baryton américain Thomas Hampson.
