Un roi qui n’entend pas donner sa fille en mariage à un simple porcher. Une princesse amoureuse qui refuse de s’unir à un vieux despote régnant sur un état voisin. Un stratagème ingénieux visant à empêcher ces noces forcées… Librement adaptée de trois contes d’Andersen (Le Porcher amoureux, La Princesse au petit pois, Les Habits neufs de l’empereur), Le Roi nu (pièce écrite en 1934) mêle drôleries et extravagances pour dénoncer l’emprise du totalitarisme sur l’individu. Soucieux d’élaborer des spectacles accessibles au plus grand nombre — spectacles fondés sur le « registre du geste et de l’image » — Philippe Awat met en scène la fable d’Evguéni Schwartz à travers une recherche sur la distorsion des perspectives et des profondeurs. Une distorsion qui a pour objet de faire surgir un « monde parallèle », un « univers surréaliste (…) inscrit dans une vérité théâtrale, celle de l’instant de la représentation ».
