Elle-même enfant de Roubaix, Marie Desplechin a trouvé chez Carolyn Carlson un espace nouveau pour déployer son travail d’auteur. Romans, livres pour la jeunesse, scénarios… constituent l’essentiel de son travail depuis longtemps. Récemment, on l’a vue se frayer un chemin original avec la danse, grâce à sa rencontre avec le chorégraphe Thierry Niang pour Au bois dormant. Déjà une référence au conte, que l’auteur exploite ici à travers cette nouvelle collaboration, qui puise tout autant dans la réalité que dans le merveilleux. « Il était une fois un homme bossu qui vivait seul sur une lande déserte et désolée… » nous dit-elle. S’ensuit l’arrivée d’un enfant « providentiel », une petite fille d’une merveilleuse beauté née d’un œuf, et objet de toutes les convoitises. Luttes de pouvoir, parcours initiatique, combat entre le bien et le mal, tous les ingrédients sont réunis pour faire de l’histoire un véritable support pour l’imaginaire tout en jouant sur les symboliques propre aux contes, qui font grandir les enfants…
Des auteurs multiples pour un spectacle total
L’espace, créé par les mots et le petit « cahier de tendances » proposé par Desplechin à Carlson, a vite trouvé dans l’univers de la chorégraphe des échos évidents. Les éléments tels que l’air ou la terre s’y déploient, l’harmonie entre les forces de la nature est une quête sous-jacente, tandis que la liberté, l’amour ou la solitude se lisent aisément dans la signature du mouvement de Carolyn Carlson. Spectacle total, soutenu par les images vidéo, les effets visuels et la scénographie de Stéphane Vérité, cette fantasmagorie pour trois danseurs qui se partagent les rôles – dont celui du conteur – repose également sur la musique de René Aubry, complice de toujours de Carlson. Celui-ci a même intégré à sa musique des chansons écrites par l’auteur ! Alors que Les Rêves de Karabine Klaxon, le premier opus jeune public de la chorégraphe, appuyait largement son onirisme sur des inspirations tirées de la vie et des influences chorégraphiques de Carlson, la nouvelle aventure du Roi Penché glisse vers un imaginaire plus libre, plus merveilleux, plus ouvert.
