Le meilleur du jazz bruxellois s’invite régulièrement, et en toute logique, au Centre Wallonie Bruxelles de la rue Quincampoix, non loin du Centre Pompidou. Place aujourd’hui à l’excellent Toine Thys (saxophones ténor & soprane, clarinette basse), qui vient de signer avec « The Optimist » son troisième album en trio, bien entouré de Karl Jannuska (batterie) et Sam Yahel (Hammond organ), souvent rejoints par le guitariste franco-sénégalais Hervé Samb. Les compositions du leader ne s’embarrassent d’aucunes frontières géographiques et aiment emmener l’auditeur très loin, souvent jusqu’en Afrique de l’Ouest (comme dans le morceau qui donne son titre à l’album). Pour autant, la musique résolument groovy reste naturellement marquée par la sonorité de l’orgue hammond et la griffe « soul jazz » de l’américain Sam Yahel, nouveau compagnon de route de Toine Thys, et ex-partenaire de Joshua Redman, Bill Frisell, Norah Jones ou Maceo Parker. Du jazz à déguster très chaud.
