« Vingt ans après sa mort, j’ai souhaité rendre hommage à Louis Calaferte pour continuer d’affirmer, à ses côtés, que “l’art, c’est une envie d’être, une envie de vivre”, et “qu’il est urgent d’apprendre à vivre et à aimer”. Les rendez-vous avec l’œuvre de Calaferte jalonnent mon parcours depuis presque dix-huit ans. Ils me sont indispensables. J’aime raconter la vie de ces personnages en prise avec des problématiques qui les dépassent, dans un monde trop grand pour eux. J’aime ces comédies à la tonalité grinçante, cette langue apparemment quotidienne, minutieuse et musicale, ce théâtre du constat, du “vrai expérimenté”, comme le définit son auteur.
Mastication des mots
Le Serment d’Hippocrate n’échappe pas à la règle. La cellule familiale, très souvent présente dans son œuvre, est à nouveau réunie. Après avoir été confrontée à la consommation dans Les Mandibules, au monde du travail dans Une Souris grise, ou à l’étranger dans La Bataille de Waterloo, la famille est ici aux prises avec la maladie et la médecine. Les personnages – qui font rire autant qu’ils sont pitoyables – habillent de certitudes verbales des vides existentiels. Le plaisir du jeu se cache dans la mastication des mots : de leur musicalité naît le rire. »
