Philharmonie de Paris / jazz reflecting the moment
Désormais bien identifié dans le paysage musical, le SF Jazz Collective est une moyenne formation au personnel évolutif, dont les membres appartiennent à la crème du jazz américain, à l’image de son nouveau directeur musical, le saxophoniste Chris Potter. Désormais composé d’Etienne Charles à la trompette, de David Sanchez au saxophone, de Warren Wolf au vibraphone, d’Ed Simon au piano, Matt Brewer à la contrebasse et Kendrick Scott à la batterie, le groupe compte deux vocalistes, Martin Luther McCoy, que l’on connait peu en Europe et, fraîchement arrivée dans les rangs, la chanteuse Gretchen Parlato, l’une des vocalistes les plus estimées de sa génération. Si le SF Jazz s’est pendant quinze ans consacré à présenter de nouveaux arrangements de grandes figures du jazz, de Horace Silver à Ornette Coleman en passant par Miles Davis, la formation se positionne dorénavant comme un foyer de composition et présentera à la Philharmonie « New Works Reflecting the Moments », autrement dit une série de pièces qui reflète les enjeux sociaux et écologiques auxquels notre siècle doit faire face.
