Il y a le Soldat ventre-plein, le Soldat ventre-creux et le Soldat ventre-à-terre. Tous trois reviennent du champ de bataille et prétendent avoir la même maison, la même femme, le même fils. Fable « sur la guerre, sur l’identité confisquée et sur cette obstination qui résiste, envers et contre tout, à la raison du plus fort », la comédie grinçante de Hanokh Levin (publiée aux Editions Théâtrales) mêle grotesque, tragique et lyrisme. « Inspirée par le conflit israélo-palestinien, explique Véronique Widock, cette histoire est celle de toutes les guerres. Mais sous la plume de Levin, l’humanité refuse de se soumettre. Et le Soldat ventre-creux, doué d’une incroyable aptitude à l’espoir, repoussant les limites du possible, fait preuve d’un insatiable appétit de vivre ! » Cet appétit, à l’image de tout l’œuvre du dramaturge israélien, constitue un appel vibrant à la paix et à la tolérance.
