Qui est Kurt Tucholsky ?
Françoise Delrue : Son œuvre très éclectique comporte des romans, des essais, et il a aussi beaucoup publié dans des revues politiques engagées. Pour le cabaret, haut lieu de contestation politique, il a écrit sous divers pseudonymes pour pouvoir s’exprimer. J’ai puisé dans l’ensemble de son œuvre pour élaborer ce spectacle. J’aime beaucoup Tucholsky, que je connais bien pour avoir rédigé un mémoire sur ses textes. Il est entier, très direct dans ses dénonciations, et capable d’assumer sans aucune lâcheté les contradictions d’un individu. Il critiquait l’armée, la justice, les hommes politiques, l’église, le petit-bourgeois, et bien sûr Hitler. Il fut vilipendé en tant que juif, marxiste, “antinationaliste“ et libre penseur. Visionnaire, il a analysé très vite l’échec de la République de Weimar et a deviné rapidement où le parti national-socialiste allait mener l’Allemagne. Ses livres ont été brûlés lors de l’autodafé de 1933 et il a été déchu de la nationalité allemande. Il adorait l’Allemagne et la détestait, car il avait l’idée d’une Allemagne plus digne. Il a résidé en France, où curieusement il est méconnu, et en Suède, où il mit fin à ses jours.
Quelle tonalité imprimez-vous à ce cabaret ?
F. D. : Le cabaret est une forme particulière, vivante, qui demande aux comédiens d’établir un rapport avec le public. J’ai voulu avec ce spectacle créer un équilibre entre deux aspects : une dimension militante fondée sur l’écriture très engagée, et une autre dimension, privée et familière, parlant du couple, de l’amour. Ainsi se côtoient des textes pacifistes, des chants anti-cléricaux, un texte très fort intitulé Hitler et Goethe, avec arguments et contre-arguments, des textes sur la trahison dans le couple… Cette diversité permet de cerner la personnalité de l’auteur, et de transplanter les spectateurs dans l’atmosphère que j’ai fantasmée de ces cabarets allemands de l’entre-deux-guerres.
Qui sont les personnages ?
F. D. : Je mets en scène deux personnages qui sont des archétypes de la société allemande créés par Tucholsky, un personnage de petit-bourgeois commerçant berlinois, Wendriner, figure caricaturale très familière des Berlinois de l’époque, et une petite bonne femme berlinoise, Lotchen. Les deux comédiens Henri Botte ou Thierry Mettetal et Murielle Colvez sont aussi à d’autres moments les porte-parole de l’auteur. Le troisième personnage, très important, est l’accordéoniste Casilda Rodriguez, notre Joconde. Elle les accompagne sur des musiques originales de Hanns Eisler, Kurt Weill,Frederick Hollander, qu’elle a arrangées.
D’où vient ce titre ?
F. D. : C’est celui d’un recueil de textes de Tucholsky. On y apprend que lorsque Mona Lisa a vu ce qui se passait dans le monde, elle n’a pu que sourire, mettre les mains sur le ventre, et se taire. C’est ce que Tucholsky lui-même a fait quand il s’est tu et a cessé d’écrire…
